Fifty years ago today April 30th 1968, my high school friend, SSGT Charles Lee Frisby was killed in South Vietnam.
I met him in junior high school and noticed he had only one ear. He was born that way. He often talked about one day getting a new ear. Charlie joked around a lot. That is how I remember him. Smiling and joking.
Just weeks before he died I saw him in the terminal at Da Nang airport.
We talked for about 45 minutes before he was called to his flight. My last words to him were, “God bless you, Charlie!”
